The Oahe Speedway 2011 Awards Ceremony and Banquet will be held at the Ramkota Convention Centre, in Pierre, on Saturday, November 5, 2011. A social hour will begin at 5pm, followed by dinner at 6pm. The dinner, featuring roast sirloin of beef and pork loin, will be served buffet style. The cost of the meal will be $25.00 per person, with kids 12 and under $10.00.

Recognition of the top finishers, in the 2011 Coca Cola Points Series, will begin at 645pm.

Oahe Speedway’s 2011 racing season has come to an end. We finished the year like we began, with Mother Nature making her presence known. The last day of races on Sunday, October 9th, were cancelled due to rain. But we survived the heavy snows, heavy rains, flood disaster, low magnitude earthquake, invasion of crickets … and we had a killer concert to remind us that the community can come together to have some fun too!

Come out tonight to the Longbranch for the last Fast Track Show and celebrate a memorable season with the crew from Oahe Speedway and Today’s KCCR. The show will air Live from the Longbrach Restaurant and Bar at 6:00pm. So come on down to the Longbranch or tune in to KCCR 1240 AM to listen to the show or visit KCCR’s site for the webstreamed version of the show.

Our inaugural concert summer at the Meadow has come to an end. As has the flooding disaster that has plagued Pierre for months. The kids are back in school and you finally have a little time to yourself. Well, breathe in that autumnal air, take a nice long walk in the beautiful South Dakotan foothills and come back home refreshed and ready to participate in the recovery effort. Volunteers Needed For Flood Clean-up Weekends

The US Army Corps of Engineers is reducing the water release levels from the Oahe Dam and the clean up effort for the 2011 flooding disaster in Pierre, South Dakota has begun. The cities of Pierre and Fort Pierre are seeking flood clean-up volunteers for the weekends of Aug. 27–28 and Sept. 3–5.

Anyone wishing to volunteer should call the Flood Recovery Hotline at 605–224-1189. Homeowners in need of assistance should call the same number so they can be matched with volunteer resources.

The main emphasis of the cleanup efforts will focus on sandbag removal. Coordinators will match volunteers with the more than 90 homeowners who have requested assistance. Volunteers should bring gloves, shovels, rakes, wheel barrows and any other items which would be helpful with debris cleanup. They will be asked to attend a short orientation the mornings of the events and will be provided with basic cleaning supplies, masks and other tools. Volunteers are also encouraged to check their medical records prior to the cleanup days to be sure they are up-to-date on immunizations and tetanus shots.

Please volunteer just a little of your time and energy to boost this recovery effort because the worst is over and you can help the communities of Pierre and Fort Pierre to get back to life.

Central South Dakota’s Newest Outdoor Concert Venue

Central South Dakota’s newest outdoor concert venue, The Meadow at Oahe Speedway, had their inaugural concert on Sunday July 10th. Despite recent challenges with the weather, namely the flooding from the release of water from the Oahe Dam, it was a gorgeous sunny day for the first concert featuring the Red Willow Band with special guests Albert & Gage. Everyone in attendance enjoyed the music, the weather and the beautiful setting of this venue. The local food vendors and beer tent were also crowd favorites.
